Cartier is a Holstein stallion with a pedigree of rare quality. He brings together classic Holsteiner lines, making him an ideal choice for today’s sport horse breeders.
Performance – Cartier competed successfully up to 1.30m before retiring to stud. He won stallion classes at Zwolle and Hasselt, was the winner of the 4&5-year-old Mechelen championships, and 4th in the 6&7-year-old championship.
Sire – He is a son of Contender, who in turn was one of the most influential sons of Calypso II. Contender died in 2014, yet is still prominent as a producer of licensed stallions and sport horses. His showjumping progeny include Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum’s Checkmate 4, Nick Skelton’s former ride Carlo 273 and Ludger Beerbaum’s top mare Chiara 222. Calypso II was by the foundation stallion Cor de la Bryere, who, through his sire Rantzau, adds Thoroughbred blood for speed and athleticism. Contender was reserve champion at his 1986 licensing and won the 1987 Adelheidsdorf stallion performance test with a jumping index of 146.62. He leaves behind more than 120 approved sons. Contender was out of the Ramiro Z daughter, Gofine, whose damsire Ladykiller brings in another dash of Thoroughbred. Ramiro Z jumped at the highest level, with wins in Nations Cups and many grands prix, as well as jumping winning a puissance, clearing a height of 2.20m. Ramiro Z scored a 9 for temperament at his stallion licensing, and has passed on that good character to his progeny.
Damline – Cestion, the dam of Cartier, comes from the Holstein breeding family n° 8456. Out of this family descend many international sporthorses: Landwind, Larry la Roque, Colani, the 1998 World Young Horse Champion, and Piccasso.
Progeny – Cartier’s offspring are impressing in jumping and eventing. Erasmus vd Heffinck (shown in video) is jumping international grand prix with Tim Stockdale and was a member of Nations Cup teams in Sopot, Hickstead and Gijon 2016. Certina, damsire Pluspunkt, is successful in young horse classes and has now been sold to grand prix rider Angelie von Essen for Sweden. Cartier is also the sire of Aramis, the winner of 2016 Swedish 5-year-old eventing championships with Olympian Linda Algotsson.
PLEASE NOTE: Cartier is available in the UK only for 2017.
